I thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so that I will remake my leaves from satin fabric. I made my rose from habutai silk but leaves are made from cheap Indian silk, so they don't look as good as Rose. I really admire your way of working, your immaculately and the beauty of your flowers. I found all your videos, even demo very useful, very glad I found your site! She bought liquid dyes and my video tutorial "Silk Peony" in which I worked with powdered dyes. She asked me how to achieve similar coloring using liquid dyes. I often have this question from my students, so I decided to share this information with you too. My advise : take a tablespoon of water, pour the water in a small jar then add a few drops of liquid dyes (depending on the final color you want to achieve). Dye a small piece of silk you are going to make petals or any other flower part in the dye you've just mixed. Let it dry. Examen it and then decide if the dye needs to be deluded or more concentrated. Add more water if you want to achieve lighter color or add more drops of dyes if you want to achieve more concentrated color. Get the idea? and another good tip - if you want a more intense color - place to dry petals (or any other flower part) on a solid surface like glass or a piece of plastic or a sheet of metal foil. When you dry flower parts on newspaper the dyes go through the silk into the paper but if you you dry colored flower parts on a solid surface the dyes more likely stay on the silk. Let me ask you : - Do you know anything about flower making tools? - Do you know what's the difference between authentic and fake tools? Let me show you a simple difference between different types of flower making tools. Proper tools should be made from stainless steel and ONLY (!) shaping balls should be made from brass. There is a strong reason for that. Have you ever seen mechanical tools made from brass? I don't think you have and do you know why? It is because tools made from brass bend and loose their original shape easily and a specially tools heated with electrical appliances as soldering irons. Soldering irons are designed to reach a temperature range of 200°-480°C Can you imagine what your flower making tool will look like after working and pressing it against a flower making sponge? This is my hand crafted with love and heart Chrysanthemum silk flower. I tried to make my first silk Chrysanthemum in early 2012. Now looking at the photos of that flower I can't hide a smile : )) I didn't have enough knowledge and indeed experience. Today, almost nine years later, I decided to re-create this beautiful flower and I'm pleased and happy with my new version. I decided to make the flower bright to remind myself and cheer myself up that better days are coming. Do you like Chrysanthemums? Would you like to make a Chrysanthemum silk flower? Get inspired. and this is a first sample of my silk Chrysanthemum bud ; ) I've found a new way to make the center of the flower. Usually you do it using a plastic ball or cotton wool. You'll never guess what material you can use to make a center/bud of most of the flowers. Everyone of you has that at home. It is cheap and easy to work with. It has a perfect shape memory. Any ideas before I reveal what material I used to make the flower center of my Chrysanthemum bud? Get inspired. Learn new skills. Easy to understand and to follow? Write a few words below this post if you learned something new. Thank you ! Working on the new project this weekend, I thought that I should start with something simple like leaves : )
I mixed the dyes for the green flower parts and the first lot of the leaves is already: dried, cut out and even shaped and I'm quite satisfied with the result : ) The second lot of the leaves (slightly different color and made from a new silk) is still drying : ) Did you know that you can achieve different coloring results with different silks? The same dyes could look brighter and almost pale on different silks. For example, these leaves (on the photo above) made from Substitute of velvet /9/: https://www.silkflowerartist.com/silk They look less bright than the same dyes on the leaves made from satin. and bare in mind that the same concentration on dyes will look different on the right and the wrong sides of the same silk. and one more tip: if you dye two or more layers of the silk in one stack, remember that the bottom layer usually looks lighter than the top layer.
