I vividly recall crafting my first silk flower back in June 2010. I owned a beautiful silk dress that I wanted to enhance with a brooch or a flower. It was then that I stumbled upon some vintage books filled with patterns and photographs of silk flowers, which sparked my curiosity and desire to try this craft. Despite not having the right materials, such as proper silk, dyes, or tools, I was eager to dive right in.
My first attempt at a silk flower was a soft, wire-free version. I used my children's coloring set to dye it and I stitched the petals together. However, attaching it to my dress proved to be a challenge, and the end result was far from what I had envisioned.
Since then, I have spent countless hours learning how to mix dyes, create different flower parts, shape with flower making tools, and assemble. Along the way, I made many mistakes and faced frustration, but with the guidance of my first teacher and my unwavering passion for this art form, I was able to overcome each obstacle.
Today, I'm excited to announce my new upcoming one-to-one online training for beginners in silk flower art, which is starting on March 12th, 2024
